Working-together guide
Role: Senior Product Manager · Team: Product Team · Session date: 22 September 2026
Deniz made choices in 18 work dilemmas in a 20-minute session during their first week. This note is meant to help you get to know each other faster in the first 90 days; it is not a performance review.
When information was incomplete, chose to act on a reasonable assumption and correct later rather than wait.
In disagreements sometimes objected openly and sometimes chose to soften tension; adjusted the stance to the situation.
On important choices chose to listen to views and then make the call and own it.
When rules and results clashed, chose to protect the defined process and equal treatment.
Choices on this axis went different ways across the three situations. That's not a flaw — it may be context-sensitivity; don't read the position on its own, ask about it.
When work and people pulled in different directions, put the team's load and the relationship first.
Pace under uncertainty · Move fast
Set a short 'pause and check' point for hard-to-reverse decisions (client commitments, budget, hiring); give room to their speed elsewhere.
Decision ownership · Own the call
Draw authority boundaries clearly in week one and let them decide within them. For decisions that affect the team, make 'who did you consult?' a routine question.
Process–outcome balance · Process & fairness
Spell out which team rules can flex and which are fixed; ambiguity may bother them.
People–task focus · Protect people
Explain why targets are critical; as someone attentive to people, they carry hard periods more easily when they know the reason.
A difference to talk through: Pace under uncertainty
In these scenarios the new hire chose more towards 'Move fast' than the round's participants, who chose more towards 'Data first'. That's not a warning sign; talking through how the team makes such calls in the first weeks makes the difference visible.

The employee has seen their own report too. Asking 'which observation felt right, which didn't?' in the first one-to-one keeps the note from becoming a label and builds trust.
